Seminar Overview

This 12.5-hour course will provide Doctors of Chiropractic with current information and practical skills relating to evaluation and management of sports related injury in athletic populations. The course emphasizes the prevention of injury and illness through the preparticipation evaluation and further utilizes case studies and hands-on-learning of the techniques used with commonly encountered conditions in the athletic population. In addition to the preparticipation examination specific topics include special populations in sport, concussion, shoulder instability, knee trauma, ankle sprain, compartment syndromes, hip injuries, elbow tendinopathies, wrist and hand injuries.

3The preparticipation examination work flow, obtaining and interpreting the health history, including the identification of cardiac keys
4The preparticipation examination cardiac evaluation, including cornerstones to the physical examination, the American Heart Association twelve-point examination and the recognition of Marfan Syndrome
5Making clearance decisions for the preparticipation examination.
6Case studies regarding special populations in sport including, the female, adolescent, pediatric and differently abled athlete
7Evaluation and management of illness in sport, including heat related illness and altitude disorders
8Case based approach regarding the evaluation and management of the upper quadrant including chiropractic adjustive procedures related to the shoulder girdle
9Case based approach regarding the evaluation and management of the lower quadrant including chiropractic adjustive procedures related to the shoulder girdle
10Case based approach regarding the evaluation and management of the spine including chiropractic adjustive procedures related to the shoulder girdle
11Case study regarding spinal and extremity best practices for rehabilitation.

Robert Nelson, DC, DACBSP

Robert Nelson, graduated Cum Laude in 1986 from Logan College of Chiropractic. Dr. Nelson is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians, (D.A.C.B.S.P.®). Postgraduate education also includes courses as a Fellow of the International Association of Clinical Acupuncture (F.I.A.C.A.), Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner (C.C.E.P.), Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S.), Chiropractic Rehabilitation Diplomate Program, Certified Graston Technique, and Active Release Technique.

Dr. Nelson has served several years on the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians as president and as a board of director. He has been the president of the Colorado Chiropractic Sports Council for the past six years.

Changes and Refunds

Every attempt is made to offer Life West CE programs as announced. However, Life West reserves the right to adjust program faculty, locations, dates, times and tuition to accommodate unanticipated occurrences and to cancel programs owing to insufficient enrollment, illness, or other factors.  Life West will notify advance registrants of any cancellation or significant program changes. Life West is not responsible for any expenses incurred by registrants due to adjustments or cancellations.

Refunds for program registration are granted if requested in writing no later than one business day before program begins. If registrants cancel within one week of program start date, a $50 processing fee will be deducted from refunds.

Less than one business day before the program begins, registration is nonrefundable but a credit voucher may be issued. Vouchers must be requested within sixty days of the program.  The credit voucher may be applied towards another Life West Postgraduate & Continuing Education program and must be redeemed within one year of the original scheduled program date or it will be forfeited. A $25 processing fee will be deducted from vouchers.
